The Cosmos Award was instituted to promote scientific culture in Italy and in particular in the South of Italy by instituting an international prize each year for the best work of scientific divulgation published in Italian in the sectors of physics, mathematics and astronomy.
The Cosmos Award was instituted to promote scientific culture in Italy and in particular in the South of Italy by instituting an international prize each year for the best work of scientific divulgation published in Italian in the sectors of physics, mathematics and astronomy. Also instituted was a Cosmos Award for students, presented to students in upper schools taking part in the initiative, who must identify their favourite book among the 10 selected by the organising committee. The award ceremony is set for June 21, 2019 (the summer solstice) at the Reggio Calabria planetarium.
The scientific committee includes names of international prestige, including Carlo Rovelli, Piergiorgio Odifreddi, Roberto Battiston, Lucia Votano and various university lecturers. The president is the creator of the initiative, Gianfranco Bertone, director of the Amsterdam Centre of excellence in Gravitational Physics and Astroparticles.
Bracco Foundation, a member of the organising committee and sole partner in the initiative, will offer technological material to the winning school.
