- The Straordinarie exhibition in Milan
From 14 February to 17 March 2024
After its success at the MAXXI in Rome, the Straordinarie exhibition travels to the Fabbrica del Vapore museum of Milan where it will run from 14 February to 17 March 2024 (entrance free of charge).
Curated by Renata Ferri, and supported also by the Bracco Foundation, Straordinarie, "Extraordinary Women", celebrates Italian women from multiple walks of life and sectors of contemporary society with 110 photographic portraits by Ilaria Magliocchetti Lombi.
The life journeys of the women celebrated here offer a variety of examples of aspirational women who succeeded in asserting themselves and in realizing their ambitions by overcoming prejudice and discrimination. Diana Bracco, Chair of the Bracco Foundation, is one of the subjects of the photographic portraits.
Straordinarie was conceived in the context of a campaign called “InDifesa” for the protection of the rights of girls in Italy and around the world that Terre des Hommes, an organization for the protection of children's rights, has been conducting for 12 years.
The Bracco Foundation’s support for the exhibition and for the related publication edited by Renata Ferri and published by Silvana Editoriale is in keeping with its multifaceted sponsorship of a range of initiatives that have gender equality as their common thread. The publication should protect the long-term legacy of this important exhibition.
Forming part of a broader ‘Milan, City of Women’ project being run by the municipal Council, the exhibition will be flanked by a programme of events for schoolchildren and the general public on the themes of female empowerment, the prevention of gender violence and discrimination, and the promotion of the rights of girls and young women.
The event is part of the Cultural Olympiad, a multidisciplinary, pluralistic programme of cultural events taking place at multiple locations. Organized by Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026 as part of the run-up to the Winter Games, the Cultural Olympiad aims to foster the values of the Olympic and Paralympic Games through cultural, heritage-related and sporting events.
