- “Milan through the eyes of Leonardo”: a contemporary journey into the Renaissance
2019-2025
The photographic exhibition “Milan through the eyes of Leonardo” celebrates the bond between Milan and Leonardo da Vinci, who arrived in the Lombard capital in 1483 from the Medici court in Florence.
That fateful journey would change the course of his career and the history of the city. The exhibition consists of a visual journey through Milan featuring several important historical buildings that were part of the world seen by Leonardo da Vinci when he arrived there in those fertile years of Italian history, and are here immortalized by the shots of a new generation of photographers.
Curated by the Bracco Foundation and Accademia Teatro alla Scala, the exhibition, originally developed for the 500th anniversary of Leonardo's death in 2019, tells the story of fifteenth-century Milan. The images, captured by five young photographer graduates of Accademia Teatro alla Scala, feature symbolic places such as the Basilica of Santa Maria delle Grazie, Palazzo Borromeo and Ca' Granda.
Each shot invites us to reflect on how our cities evolve over time, on how public spaces are also memory sites, and on how we bear collective responsibility to pass them on intact to new generations.
This year, the exhibition, which provides visitors with a completely fresh perspective of the Milan of Leonardo da Vinci’s time, will be featured in "Fuori Expo" as well as in Japan thanks to an international partnership.
Exhibition calendar and locations
