- Fourth National Conference on city suburbs
10/06/2023
On Friday 6 October 2023, the fourth edition of the National Conference on city suburbs "Ten, a Hundred, a Thousand Centres" will be held simultaneously in the towns of Bergamo and Brescia. The conference has established itself as an important occasion for discussing how the development of peripheral urban areas can power the growth of the cities to which they are attached.
The two host cities, designated Italian capitals of culture for 2023, are also staging exhibitions of the “City of the Future”, which is another reason Fondazione Bracco decided to hold the conference there.
With reference to actual case studies, the conference will discuss
- how culture and cultural events can act as accelerants of urban development;
- how the beauty of the natural environment is an asset that needs to be protected;
- what good practices should be adopted so that infrastructure becomes part of urban recovery and regeneration;
- the benefits of education-focused complementary welfare.
Public bodies, research entities, private-sector companies and non-profit organizations have been invited to contribute to the conference.
The conference, an initiative that enjoys the strong backing of Fondazione Bracco, was set up as a periodic itinerant event. Previous editions have illuminated the importance of sharing the results of experimental programmes run in urban peripheries that aim to bring vision and competence to programmes that make the city the central point of reference for the development of urban peripheries.
