To celebrate an important anniversary, the 150 years of Italian Unification, the Foundation is taking part in the rich programme of initiatives planned, offering in Italy and abroad important opportunities for remembering the historical, political and artistic phases that together created the identity of the Bel Paese. In the United States, the country which more than others guided the world political stage in past decades and to which Italy is linked by ties of profound friendship, the Foundation supported the exhibition “Venice: Canaletto and his rivals” at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, dedicated to one of the most interesting periods in Italian painting. The United States embassy in Washington also hosted a concert of official celebrations for Italian Unification, of which the Foundation is Institutional Partner. In this setting was a performance by the Orchestra della Fondazione. Lirico-Sinfonica of the Petruzzelli in Bari, conducted by Lorin Maazel, a member of our Advisory Board. The Foundation then dedicated another three initiatives to the City of Milan: in the setting of an event at the Milan Camera del Lavoro, in March two letters hand written by Garibaldi were made public stop they were dedicated to mother new is workers and preserved in the Bracco Historical Archive; in October supported the show Sebben che siam donne on female emancipation in Lombardy and the following month hosted in the Teatrino in via Cino del Duca a conference dedicated to 3 great entrepreneurial figures of the Renaissance: Carlo Erba, Giovanni Battista Schiapparelli and Roberto Giorgio Lepetit, organised by the Fondazione Carlo Erba.
