A gender perspective on the upcoming US presidential election
In connection with the project #100esperte centred on women experts across a range of fields, the Order of Journalists of Lombardy, ISPI and the Bracco Foundation are organizing a seminar for journalists on the US presidential election that is also open to members of the public. It takes place on Wednesday 9 October 2024 from 9 to 12 at Palazzo Clerici in Milan. Taking into account the unexpected changes in the leading players and in party strategies, the seminar proposes to take a deep dive into the gender question in the US presidential election, and to highlight the female perspective on leadership and politics.
The seminar will hear from some of the women experts on the #100esperte database from institutions such as the University of Bologna, Politecnico di Milano and Università degli Studi di Verona, who will analyse and offer insights on matters of interest for Europe and Italy.
The session counts for 3 training credits for student journalists. Registrations remain open until 7 October 2024 on the journalist portal.
100 women against stereotypes: an instrument for allowing experts to speak, starting from science
Several research studies on women in the news media show that women are rarely called in as experts. Those who explain and interpret the world are almost always men: in 76% of cases, according to national research by the Global Media Monitoring Project 2020.
