The photographic exhibition "Life as a female scientist" in virtual form for the first time is part of the rich programme of the XV edition of the National Geographic Festival, dedicated this year to the topic “optimism and science”
The virtual exhibition "Life as a female scientist" presents the faces and competences of great Italian female scientists, protagonists of the “100 women against stereotypes” (#100esperte) project
, created to make the most of female expertise sectors still seen as a male domain.
The series of portraits, by the famous photographer Gerald Bruneau, was conceived and organised by Bracco Foundation to help overcome prejudices in scientific practice. Some video messages accompany the photographs: they are contributions by female scientists called on in spring 2020 during the lockdown through the call “Our view on tomorrow” with the idea of helping to construct an explanation for the present and a vision of the future.
The XV edition of the National Geographic Festival of Sciences explores through dialogues, reflections, virtual exhibitions and online events how much and how scientific research shows today, in conditions dominated by strong personal and geographic limitations, its open and universal character, without barriers and aimed at the common good. During the more than 130 events, 70 of them for schools, the 160 and more speakers involved will explore the major topical themes to demonstrate and recount out technological, scientific and social progress go hand-in-hand with the vision of the present that is firmly rooted in reality but never lacks faith in the future.
